Chat Widgets put a chat button on your website so visitors can message you directly โ and every conversation lands in your eGrow Inbox alongside WhatsApp and Instagram. Manage them at https://v2.egrow.com/inbox/chat-widgets.
Creating a widget
Click New Chat Widget and set it up:
- Display name โ the name shown at the top of the chat window.
- Welcome messages โ the greeting a visitor sees when they open the chat. You can add welcome messages per language so international visitors are greeted properly.
- Suggested messages โ quick-start buttons (each a short label + the message it sends) so a visitor can begin a conversation in one tap, e.g. “Track my order” or “Talk to sales.”
Installing it on your site
Each widget gives you an embed snippet โ a small piece of code. Paste it into your website's HTML (before the closing </body> tag) and the chat button appears on your site. Use the Test option to preview and try the widget before you publish it.
Tip: a couple of well-chosen suggested messages dramatically increase how many visitors start a chat โ lead with your most common questions.
Letting your AI Agent answer website chats
Your chat widget is a channel like any other, so the same AI Agent that already handles WhatsApp and Instagram can answer website visitors too. There is no AI switch inside the widget itself — you connect the widget to an agent from the agent’s side.
- Create your widget first (see above) so that it exists in the list.
- Go to https://v2.egrow.com/ai-agents/inbox and open the agent you want to use — or click Create to build one. Full walkthrough: Building an AI Agent.
- Open the Connections tab. Your chat widget is listed there alongside your WhatsApp and Instagram accounts, under the display name you gave it.
- Toggle it on and save.
From that moment the agent replies automatically to conversations that start on your website — in the visitor’s own language, using your knowledge base and your product catalog exactly as it does on your other channels.
Good to know
- One agent, several channels. A single agent can handle your widget and your WhatsApp numbers at the same time — or you can dedicate a separate agent to your website, with its own prompt and tone.
- Working hours apply. The agent’s Availability tab governs the widget too. Outside its hours the agent stays quiet and website conversations wait for your team. If you set no windows at all, it answers 24/7.
- You can always take over. Widget conversations arrive in your Inbox like any other, so your team can step into any conversation at any moment.
- Products need AI enabled. The agent can only talk about products that have AI switched on at https://v2.egrow.com/products. If it cannot find an item a visitor asks for, check that first.
Tip: try it before you rely on it. Use the widget’s Test option and chat as a visitor would — you will see exactly how the agent answers, and can refine its Custom Prompt before real customers arrive.
What's next
Once conversations start arriving, handle them like any other chat โ with quick replies, labels, and even your AI Agent.
