WhatsApp API error: "there were one or more errors related to your payment method"

Your WhatsApp messages fail with a payment-method error. Here is why Meta blocks them and how to fix it in Business Manager.

⚠️ What this error means

When sending on the WhatsApp Business API you may see:
"Message failed to send because there were one or more errors related to your payment method."

This is not an eGrow problem and not a problem with your number or your template. It means Meta could not charge your WhatsApp account for the message, so it refused to send it. Everything is fixed inside Meta Business Manager, not inside eGrow.

Why this error happens

There are three causes, and it is almost always one of them:

  1. No payment method added. Your Meta Business Manager account has no card linked, so WhatsApp cannot charge the conversation fees.
  2. The card is not set as default. A card exists, but it is not marked as the default payment method, so Meta does not know which card to charge.
  3. An outstanding balance. Previous message charges were never paid. Meta blocks all new sending until the balance is cleared.

How to fix it

1. Add a payment method

  • Log in to Meta Business Manager.
  • Go to Business Settings → Payments.
  • Click Add Payment Method and enter your card details.

2. Set it as the default

  • In the Payments section, find the card you want to use.
  • Click Set as Default so Meta charges it automatically.

3. Clear any outstanding balance

  • Open Billing in Business Manager.
  • Review the invoices and pay whatever is due.
  • Sending resumes once the payment goes through — usually within a few minutes.
✅ After fixing it

Send one test message from eGrow to confirm. If it goes through, your queued messages and automations resume on their own — you do not need to recreate anything.

How to avoid it happening again

  • Turn on auto-recharge or recurring billing so a low balance never stops your messages.
  • Check the billing section regularly for pending charges.
  • Keep a backup card on file in case the primary one expires or is declined.
Still blocked after paying? Meta can take a few minutes to lift the block. If messages still fail after 30 minutes, contact eGrow support with your WhatsApp number and a screenshot of the Payments page.
